More Budget Friendly Clean Meals by JenniferE

Eating Clean means you will be consuming 5-6 mini-meals a day. Our discussion of whether or not eating healthy is expensive prompted me to take a closer look at some of my favorite quick & easy snacks. These are things I always keep on hand and readily available:

  • Natural Peanut Butter on 100% Whole Wheat Toast or Apple
  • Low-fat Cottage Cheese
  • Egg Whites

Let’s take a look at what each of these will cost us based on my recent purchases:

  • 2 TBS Peanut Butter .18 + 1 Slice Natures Own 100% Whole Wheat Bread .09 = .27
  • 2 TBS Peanut Butter. 18 + 1 Organic Apple .62 = .80
  • 1/2 Cup Cottage Cheese (favorite night time snack!) = .66
  • 4 Large Egg Whites = .63

Even I was surprised when I really boke these down and looked at the numbers. You can feel good about Eating Clean, because you’re fueling your body with good, wholesome foods and spending your money wisely. All of these foods come in under $1 and provide high quality protein that your body needs to help build and preserve lean muscle. You can’t say that for a sugar-loaded candy bar or a greasy bag of chips!
