Review of Jay Robb’s Get Energized Yammit Almond Energy Bar
In my previous review of the Jay Robb High-Protein Fudge Brownie Jay Bar, my review wasn’t all that favorable. I certainly think anyone who doesn’t mind the funky taste of a chocolate protein bar should try them since they’re loaded with protein and a good source of fiber and are clean and as natural as a protein bar you can get. They’re just not for me. However, I thought with the Get Energized Yammit! Almond Energy Bar, I had finally found a clean protein bar for me. After researching 2 of the ingredients, I’m not so sure.
Jay Robb Get Energized Yammit! Almond Energy Bar
I have to say that the taste of his bar surprised me. I expected it to taste at least half decent because it has almonds in it and I like almonds, but it actually tasted great and something I do not have to choke down just to get that extra protein I need. These bars do not contain:
- Dairy
- Hydrogenated Oils
- Artificial Sweeteners (a huge plus for me because I don’t do artificial sweeteners!)
- Gluten
- Casein
- Glycerin
- Maltitol
- Acesulfame-K
- Aspartame
Sounding good so far, right?
The ingredients in the Yammit! Almond Energy Bar are:
Organic almonds, organic figs, organic dates, organic raisins, organic agave syrup, YAMMIT Energy Nuggets (sweet potato pieces, sodium acid pyrophosphate [from natural sources], tetrasodium pyrophosphate [from natural sources]).
Now, I did have to look up the sodium acid pyrophosphate and the tetrasodium pyrophosphate because I didn’t want to call these clean with those kind of ingredients, even if they are from “natural sources.” One of the principles of eating clean is not to eat anything in which you can’t pronounce the name, right? I can pronounce these ingredients..I just didn’t know what they were.
After researching these two ingredients this morning, I have found that they’re food additives. Approved by the FDA as “safe,” but additives nonetheless. Although Robb doesn’t claim these bars to be clean or all natural on the packaging, I have to admit I am highly disappointed. *sigh* I was all set to recommend these bars until I performed my research. I should have known better. Really, is there a clean protein bar on this planet that I do not have to hold my nose to eat? I’m starting to think not.
In the meantime, if you’re looking for a good bar, try the Fudge Brownie or other Jay Robb bars after you check out the ingredients first, which thankfully are listed on his website. Apparently I glossed over those ingredients when I purchased this bar, so make sure you do not make the same mistake if you’re looking for a clean protein bar.
I guess the bright side of all this is I’m only out $2.75 for this bar. Thank goodness I didn’t buy a whole box, huh?
I did purchase some Jay Robb rice protein and egg protein powders, so stay tuned for my review of those.

I tried the Cashew-Coconut bar, expecting it to taste like a nasty Power-Bar. I was pleasantly surprised. It actually tasted like coconut. Just coconut. No funkiness! I didn’t have to cringe when I ate it like I usually do. It was good! I too, would looove to find a decent bar, for those times when I’m not home. Guess I’ll have to come up with my own recipe and hit the kitchen.
Hi…I just happened onto your site while looking for the best green superfoods drink powder. I just learned about eating clean and it has become my byword, “live green and eat clean!” Do you use greens powder and which one do you like? Thanks. gh
