What is Clean Eating?
So what does eating clean really mean? Basically, eating clean is giving your body proper nutrition with healthy foods and minimizing or completely eliminating junk (processed) food from your diet. Clean eating involves consuming food in it’s most natural form (think whole foods). There are varying “degrees” of clean eating. There are those who eat clean 100% of the time; there are those who have a “cheat” meal or cheat weekend; and then there are those who are transitioning from eating processed foods to eating clean. Those who eat clean usually follow a few simple principles:
- Avoid processed foods, especially foods containing white flour and sugar
- Avoid trans fat
- Avoid colas and juices loaded with sugar
- Eat mini-meals (eating every 3 to 4 hours) and practice portion control
- Consume fresh fruits and vegetables
- Eat lean cuts of meat
When talking about clean eating, it’s important to talk about what clean eating is not: Eating clean is not a fad diet; it is a lifestyle. However, clean eating is a good way to lose weight and keep it off.
